The origins

Do you know how ideas are born? Sometimes it's really simple. I was looking at the trails of the area and thought: "Wait a minute, what if I connected them all?"

It wasn't a complicated project to conceive. The trails were already all there, beautifully marked. It was just a matter of connecting them intelligently to create a unique route.

I know these mountains well and immediately realized it could work. A route of over 120 km that unites all the most famous mountain groups in the area: Latemar, Catinaccio, Sassopiatto and Sassolungo, Sella-Pordoi, Marmolada and Vallaccia, Viezzena.

They're all here, one after another, in a single great adventure. In complete self-sufficiency.

When you want. How you want. Because you want.

It's not a race.

It's not an event.

It's an idea.

Imagine more than 120 km connecting the most beautiful trails of our mountains. No bib number, no registration fee, no organized aid stations. Just you, your backpack, and an imaginary line crossing ridges, forests, and valleys.

Those seeking glory should look elsewhere. Here you won't find crowds cheering for you, nor heavy medals to hang in your living room. If you complete the route, we'll send you a small vinyl sticker. It costs little, has no market value, but it's tangible proof that you've been part of something big.

An invisible community

Those who complete the Dolomiti Ultra Tour become part of a peculiar community: people who will probably never meet, but who have run on the same trails, slept under the same stars, cursed the same climbs.

This site exists to collect stories, not to create heroes. If you decide to take on the loop, know that you won't be the first and you won't be the last. But your experience will be unique, as unique as every encounter between a human being and the mountain.

The Route

120+ km of pure Dolomite magic. 9000 meters of ascent (and just as many descents). A journey through some of the most extraordinary panoramas in the Alps.

The Dolomiti Ultra Tour is not a simple trail, but a network of historical routes that, linked together, create a unique experience. Every kilometer tells a different story, every climb reveals a new horizon.

Numbers that tell a story

  • Distance: just over 120 km

  • Elevation gain: approximately 9000 metres

  • Negative difference in altitude: approximately 9000 metres

  • Maximum altitude: Piz Boè at 3152 metres

  • Minimum altitude: Predazzo at 1018 meters

  • Mountain huts along the route: numerous, for those seeking shelter or a hot meal

Route features

The route winds through some of the most iconic landscapes of the Dolomites, alternating technical trails with smoother sections, aerial crests with silent woods. It is a condensed version of everything that makes this territory unique: vertical walls of limestone rock, high-altitude meadows, alpine lakes, historical testimonies.

This is not a route for beginners. It requires experience in an alpine environment, orientation skills, adequate physical preparation and appropriate equipment. Some sections may present technical difficulties or exposure.

Huts and support points

One of the distinctive features of the Dolomiti Ultra Tour is the presence of numerous refuges along the route. These historic buildings represent not only potential rest or refreshment points, but also witnesses to the long mountaineering tradition of these mountains.

For those who tackle the route in FKT (Fastest Known Time) style, refuges can offer strategic points to stock up on water or quick food. For those who choose a more contemplative approach, they are places to share stories and recover energy.

Seasonality

The ideal time to tackle the Dolomiti Ultra Tour is from mid-June to mid-September, when the higher passes are generally free of snow and the refuges are open. Severe weather conditions can occur at any time of the year, so it is essential to check the forecast before setting off and bring appropriate equipment.

Times and Records

For the number purists: yes, we keep track of times. No, they are not the main objective.

The current record is yet to be established. The average time will be around 2 days. The maximum time? It doesn't exist. Some will complete the route in just over a day, running almost continuously. Others will spend a week, enjoying sunrises and sunsets. Both approaches deserve the same respect.

Basic rules
Few but clear. So everyone knows what they are getting into.

1) Self-sufficiency

If you decide to stop, you are responsible for your return. There is no shuttle service, there is no organized assistance. Sort it out yourself: public transportation, hitchhiking, or just keep walking. Your problems remain your problems, just like in the mountains.

2) Company

Bring whoever you want with you. Pacers allowed along the entire route. Someone to tell you stories when the going gets tough can make the difference between an unforgettable experience and an ordeal. But remember: their presence does not make your FKT any less valid.

3) Information

All the route info and GPS tracks are available in the download section. No excuses like "I got lost" or "I didn't know where to go". It's all there, and if you have any questions, ask before you go.

4) Equipment

There is no mandatory equipment list. You are an adult, you decide. Only you know what you need to have fun on 120 km and 9000 meters of altitude difference. But if you find someone in difficulty, stop and help.

5) Validation

Announce your attempt in advance. Send us the GPS track at the end and the address where to send the sticker if you complete the course. No witnesses or judges, just your word and the GPS track. The mountains are the last place where it makes sense to cheat.

6) Spirit

Ask for advice, listen to those who have already been there, share when you return. Have fun and enjoy every step.
